Underground River and Honda Bay
Our first two big trips on Palawan took us to two classic Tourist
Attractions.
The Underground River: we drove through the
jungle, across the island, then took a boat to the mouth of the river.
Then we took a small boat up the river, which is supposedly the second longest
underground river in the world. The trip to the underground river was
nearly a complete disaster. First, I sat on my glasses in the bus and had
to hold them together with a safety pin. Secondly, Maricor was
attracted to a Swiss fellow at a time when I was beginning to fall for her. All in all, it was a pretty bad day for me.
Honda Bay was so beautiful, and a wonderfully
therapeutic tonic for the stresses of the day before. Maricor and I had
come to an uneasy peace -- I decided that my attraction was unfair to her since
she was probably looking for a husband, and I was focused more on traveling and
enjoying bachelorhood. At Honda Bay we rented a boat and headed to Snake
Island for some snorkeling and a fish and crab lunch. I don't think the
fish was seasoned, but it was about the most delicious fish I've ever eaten..
